KIA Ora Visitors & Welcome To Unaloto's Blog.

I am a year 8 student at room 18 in Mr Barks class. It my first time studying in Mr Barks classroom so I'm going to work much harder and strive to succeed. Our topic this term is about being Cyber Smart it means being safe on the Internet which is not downloading picture's or videos.

This class is pretty good I am just getting to room 18.

Tennis

Tennis Tournament

It was a wet morning on Thursday,time to play tennis again, but this time we had a tournament.Our instructor (Marcelle), WARNED us about the tennis nets legs. We had some practise before we started the tournament, it was simple the loosing team goes down and wining team goes up. We were split in to four teams. Marcelle blew the whistle and the game was off! Tamati served the ball across the net and the opponent hit it back all of a sudden Tamati quickly returns the ball with a glorious spike back to him, the opponent missed the shot and one point goes to the Tamati's team. They have had a victory but it was not over. Drips of wet raindrops were soaking in my hair, so we stopped the time and waited. As the time goes by, we went back to the courts and continued our tournament. The fun enjoyment of tennis was victorious, time was running out, the score is 6 all the Jordan takes the advantage and ace our last winning goal.

My Dream Outta Of This World

Brring Brring....... ‘ screamed the alarm.
I tried to ignore it. I wanted
to stay home in my outta this world dream. My
dream holiday.

It was just another day at home but this time it was different. My family has been adopted by ALIENS. I quickly hit the gravity button which makes me float. I looked out the window and there they were, it had only one eye, it was green and had slimy tentacles and, and...........
looked like this.

The aliens held my mum hostage while they were heading to Uranus to look for a BOMB, which fell off, when my mum and her space crew was attacking the aliens. My mum wanted to experiment on them. I took a mini rocket and flew silently behind them, as we wonder around the eight planets we have found Uranus.

According to space time, it has been 7 years so I only have 1 Month to stop the Aliens from invading Earth. My friend and I (Obie K Nobe One) was helping me find my mum but it was too late. As the Bomb was activated, it was a beeping rapidly but it was just the alarm waking me up.

SILLY SPORTS

I was challenged as a simple sponge can fill a bucket with that much water. My team mates were all lined up like a foot ball squad.
Quick, Quick, don't squeeze it, dose were the only words I heard, when I passed the sponge through my legs. The rotation of passing the sponge was going side, under, side, under, that was the strategy of this game, Jordan slipped and we all laughed with joy....... Just before the siren went on.

It's time for some action.
Swinging and pulling and stretching that rubber catapult, I thought that rubber thing was being teared to pieces..... The ball went straight to the ground, there was no where the ball can go inside that hoop. None of the room 19 girls or boys got it in. The aim of the game is to swing a ball inside a hoop..... err ruuu err ruuu.On that siren goes again.

Time for a "spooning" challenge with Mr. Harris.
My leg was tied to a partner like a prisoner, with a ball on top of a spoon, on my hand. GO! yelled Mr. Harris me and Samson were cooperating saying in, out, in, in our heads trying not to get out of focus or else the ball will fall down. It was a challenge for me because the wind was blowing my hair on my face.

Where The Heck Is Mt Eden?

Different Auckland town centres have adopted Rugby teams from countries that qualified for the World Cup.

(If we couldn't find a symbol we chose a picture that told more about the place).

Mt Eden is an inner suburb of Auckland city, situated five kilometres south of the city centre.
The mountain is the highest natural point in the whole of Auckland.
n pre-European times Mount Eden was utilised as a fortified hill pa by various Māori tribes.
In 1868 local people met to form a local governing body; this was the Mt Eden Highway Board. The Mt Eden Borough Council came into being in 1906. The Council Office buildings in Valley Road were built in 1911. In 1989 Mt Eden Borough was amalgamated with Auckland City.

Cross Country

I heard the two bricks collide together ........BANG! The fast boys were sprinting through muddy puddles and zoomed off towards the finish. I was thinking that was too fast and I would catch them....... eventually. By the time I reached Mr Harris checkpoint, ( My Teacher ) I was Pumped.

The running course for our cross country was 3 kilometers and so far I probably ran about 1 kilometer. I jog as I felt exhausted just trying to cross that finish line. Around the foot path, through the muddy grass, huffing and puffing along I go. There I am half way in the gate. This three kilometer race was like putting my heart on a treadmill...

The moment I first crossed the finish line I couldn't even breath. Friends were cheering and laughing. At least I made the first 20 to finish .

Keep Your Eye On The Ball

We are using the nations of the 2011 Rugby World Cup as our inquiry path.

For this unit we are in one of four teams:

Brumbies, Force, Rebels, Stormers.

My team is Brumbies

There will be a number of tasks for us to navigate to achieve our goal of an excellent result in this unit. There are a mixture of individual and team tasks to be completed. The main task that will show our learning in this unit will be a Hyperstudio presentation about one of the countries in the World Cup competition.

Furniture Design Solutions

We have been designing a model for the street. Our problem is we don’t have any chairs or sitting equipment to sit on. I have been designing a furniture chair, it has been paper Mashhad, painted and ready for it’s picture. Cardboard has been cut into small pieces. Barb wire has been struck-ed at the backrest to make it stiff. And a toilet roll is under neath the seat. To Be Continued......?

Swimming

Splash, water is splashing every where, it’s like I’m drowning in fun. I was soaking wet as I race with my friends. My free style isn't good but I’ll manage to do it, swimming has showed me to be a successful swimmer and helps me survive while I’m in the beach. My arms churned the water, my legs kicked like a bat out of hell! And Zoom! there I was, last to reach the end of the pool. I felt embraced, but may be I’ll manage one day.

The Potato Chip

George Crum was the creator of this food (Potato Chips). The chip is an accidental invention.
This invention takes us back to the 80’s, it was a summer day when George Crum (the inventor) was a chief at an elegant resort in Sara toga Springs, New York.
A dinner guest was at the restaurant and ordered some of George’s french fries, but the fries were too thick for his taste. He rejected the order and so Crum redid the french fries and they became paper thin chips. And that’s how this type of food was born.
Crum’s date of birth was in 1822 in Sara Toga, New York. His death was in 1914 he was a native American Man. Not much can be found about his early life and education. He was the son of a mulatto jockey and an Indian maid.
Did you know he opened his own restaurant and he put a basket of some of his famous potato chips on every table. As you know now potato chips are every where, they come in all different sizes, packets and flavours.

Did you know? Da Vinci was one of the great creative minds of the Italian Renaissance,his paintings was effective but also immensely talented as an engineer, scientist and inventor. He was was born on the 15 of April 1452. As Da Vinci was in Milan, the city was invaded by the French in 1499

The very first helicopter has been made.

Did you know he created the first battle tank?
He was even a geologist.

Even more creations were made by Da Vinci. In fact, they still don't know if they have found all his designs yet!.

reLooking Back - Looking Forward

Looking Back at Term 1 my learning has not been improving well. But it did not keep me down from having fun. I was enjoying Camp Take Charge, but mostly Rock up. There were all kinds of fun like Archery, Dunker and even swimming. It was breath taking. Just think of all the terms?, or even next year, there could be even more fun. I am also happy that the net books are finally here. My highlights of term 1 were awesome.

Looking forward- I am discovering new adventures, words nouns and verbs. My improvement today has been earned and my learning skills are better than I thought. Bigger, Better, Faster, and Stronger is our model or Topic.

Camp

Wow! another camp can you believe that, I knew that this would be the best camp ever. There was cooking, singing, dancing, even new adventures, and so many more I can’t explain. What a way to start a holiday.
One of my special trips was Rock Up, and Dunker, the trips were this Tuesday. I really enjoyed both of them. There was more, like Ski Boards, Archery, and a game about team work.
I enjoyed camp and I can’t wait till next year.

One Wednesday morning, room 17 went bug hunting. We went to a creek at the back of the school and found lots of little critters. Aidan gave me heaps of snails to look after, but they kept on escaping. One poor snail fell off onto the ground!

At the end of term 3, I thought I had two weeks of fun, but I wasted it. I stayed home doing nothing but feeling so miserable! My holiday sucked.

One of my worse day were where my big brother sold my games and left me there for dead. That's not all, my mother did nothing about it. She just said don't worry! It felt like I was ripped apart.

It was even worse the next day, I wasn't allowed to watch TV when school starts.This is so NOT FAIR!!

Well anyways, thank goodness!! that nightmare is over, I can go back to school with my friends once......... again.

Pirates Who Don't Do Anything

We have been learning about pirates who went plundering in ancient times.These pirates were from Europe and were poor, miserable, and unemployed. They became pirates to start PLUNDERING (stealing) goods, BLOOD DIAMONDS, TOBACCO, and SLAVERY.

It was hard work plundering merchant ships(ships that have goods, or trading and selling) because their GOLD MUST be REALLY HEAVY to carry that much gold. I forgot that smaller ships are the fastest! I recon that is pretty sad that they touchier slaves, witch are from Africa?!

This Picture here is Nicholas Young. He was a sailor on Captain Cooks Ship for a look out voyage. Nicholas Young was a surgeons boy and eleven years old when he left his family! On Captain Cooks ship he is a navigator.

Navigating is something you could use to set sail on sea. You must make sure, that you are going the right direction.

Polynesian People

Polynesian people touched down on Aotearoa 1000 years ago. Individual people came by canoe, which Maori people used well sailing on the verge of death. Some of the boats had single hulls, without riggers or double hulls. There was plunks slashed together, which were 15 to 25 meters long.

Trained navigators steered under a direct trail of stars by night and sea swells by day. Not many of them managed to cross the dangerous seas of Aotearoa.

Mighty Mariners is what we are studying back at Point England school. As I step foot on the school grounds, we have to line up at the hall. It is also the first day of term three, Mr. Burt was announcing what the school topic is, then team 4 was up to show off about our school topic, Mighty Mariners.

One Tree Hill

One Tree Hill was made by volcanic lava, that was hitting the hot spot. It was making a cone, witch will allow it to cool down and become a erupting volcano .

Lava has created a volcanic eruption, called One Tree Hill, a.k.a. Maungakiekie. It was erupting to 20,000 or 30,000,years, it is also a famous Auckland landmark.

The spectacular view at the top tells you, the dead men at war worked hard. Also you can look at some of the volcanoes in the area of New Zealand.

As you were climbing to the top of the hill, you can look down and see the three craters, that shows you how the side is blown up. The scoria rocks were great for ancient use, and the mouth of the lava is shaped like an horse shoe. Whats more the person who made volcanoes was a man called volcan, and now his name is still remembered for all the maori ancestors.

Being at the Fifa World Cup would be amazing , it is like the finals. When our team had the ball the crowd went wild with rage, in a good way though. Cars went racing to the stadium.

People were not happy to miss out. A terrible tragedy had happened all the tickets were sold out. It was as if it was the end of the world. Sadly people went back home.

New Zealand and Italy face to face, my future is in their hands. One match will change millions of peoples lives, see history be made, that's what I say.

Then Boom! Italy has the ball he's going, he's going.........

MISS, New Zealand has it. Dodging player by player, seems to becoming a good start.

Finely, at last, he's running, he's running ............

GOAL!! New Zealand cheering loud and proud. But it is not over there is only a couple of minutes left Italy at last has the ball, he seems to be focused on it then ...........

GOAL! I don't know how he doe's it, what a great save for Italy.

Volcano Eruption

Inside planet earth is hot liquid rock with piousness gasses. magma inside the vent is expanding, witch means it is not going to burst out hard.

Mount Vesuvius was erupting! A foundation of fire shot upwards and huge black cloud rose up into the sky. The ground shook with the force of the explosion. People staggered, clinging to one another.

The Tuna Goes On the Umu

Into the umu, goes large plump tuna, that was sent from niue, by plane. The tuna is cut up into big chunks , then wrapped in coconut leaves. Then it is dumped on top of the umu, because it doesn't need so much time to cook.

My Family Portrait

Here is me and a picture of my family portrait that I drew by hand. If you look very closely, you can see a dolphin which is my mother, and also our future because it isn't much detailed. On the ground is me, my two brothers, and my baby sister. Also I drew my Dad in the purple sky, watching over us. What's more, I drew birds flying in the sky. The whole portrait means that I like the beach, because on the ground is the sea, my mother is the dolphin who is swimming, and I drew some birds in the sky to make it more detailed.

My Volcano Art

Here is one of my volcano art at school, I have been working on. First we painted the background to make it blend the colors in. Then I got some new instructions to make my work more detailed.
Next we add the volcano, draw some smoke, and a little bit of steaming hot lava erupting out of volcano's mouth. After that we finally smuged the pastals with our hands to make it more interesting. It didn't end up good but I tried my best.

Tamaki College Visit

Here is one of my best friends, Joe. We were playing a game called octopus down at Tamaki College.

The aim of the game was that we have to get to the other side before the people that are in gets us out. When we are in or get tagged we sit on our bottoms and skittle with our hands. Also we use our octopus legs to get them out and that is me on the left.
